Dr. Christina Whitehouse Selected for NIH LRP Award to Advance her Research

Award facilitates continuation of study of older adults living with diabetes in care transitions

Dr. Christina Whitehouse

Dr. Christina Whitehouse has been selected to receive an NIH LRP (Loan Repayment Program) award through the Clinical Research LRP from the National Institute on Aging. Her LRP award is for a period of two years (07/01/2023 - 06/30/2025). She notes, 鈥淚 am tremendously grateful for the NIH LRP program and to be selected for this award that enables me to concentrate on advancing my research without the weight of my student loan debt. I look forward to enhancing the healthcare provided to older adults living with diabetes as they experience care transitions.鈥

Dr. Whitehouse is an adult gerontology nurse practitioner who, while also teaching nursing students and conducting her research, continues her practice in the community, seeing adult patients and focusing on those living with diabetes. She is also a certified diabetes education and care specialist. Her research and work have been published and presented both nationally and internationally regarding transitions in care with this population.

The goal of her research project, 鈥淥p鈥媡鈥媔鈥媘鈥媔鈥媧鈥媔鈥媙鈥媑鈥 鈥婦鈥媔鈥媋鈥媌鈥媏鈥媡鈥媏鈥媠鈥 鈥婱鈥媋鈥媙鈥媋鈥媑鈥媏鈥媘鈥媏鈥媙鈥媡鈥 鈥嬧媡h鈥媟鈥媜鈥媢鈥媑鈥媓鈥 鈥媋鈥 鈥婲鈥媢鈥媡鈥媟鈥媔鈥媡鈥媔鈥媜鈥媙鈥 鈥媋鈥媙鈥媎鈥 鈥婨鈥媎鈥媢鈥媍鈥媋鈥媡鈥媔鈥媜鈥媙鈥 鈥婭n鈥媡鈥媏鈥媟鈥媣鈥媏鈥媙鈥媡鈥媔鈥媜鈥媙鈥嬧 is to improve health outcomes for older adults living with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Dr. Whitehouse will continue her work evaluating the potential benefits of telehealth-delivered diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES), specifically the program RxNET (Prescribing Nutrition and Education via Telehealth) for older adults with T2D and food insecurity.

Dr. Whitehouse also serves as an ambassador for the LRP program.
